Corralejo

Beaches

Corralejo has many beaches spread out over the coastline.

Playa Corralejo

This beach is located closest to the harbour of Corralejo, with soft white sandy beaches and many bars and restaurants nearby.

Muelle Chico de Corralejo, Playa de la Goleta, Playa del Medio and Playa de los Verilitos

These beaches together make up the most extensive beach in the centre of the resort. All of these have lovely soft, white sand and have many foods and drink options on the beach.

Playa Vista Lobos (Popcorn Beach)

A small secluded beach, hidden away from most tourists in this area and often much less busy than other beaches. The beach has soft white sands and a unique type of white thing that look like popcorn, hence the nickname “Popcorn Beach”.

Playa de la Barreta

This beach is located just in front of the Secrets Bahia Real Resort & Spa and has a more luxurious feel than many other Corralejo beaches. There are also some piers with luxury sun loungers, a cocktail bar and a restaurant on them.

Grandes Playas

This beach is the largest one near Corralejo and the surrounding sand dunes even larger than the Corralejo. This is the best beach for you if you like the beach, soft white sands and nothing else. Bring a picnic as there is nothing nearby to buy in this area.

Best hotels in Corralejo

Corralejo has the largest selection of hotels and accommodations on the island. There are very many adult-only hotels here. Most of these are located close to the shopping streets and harbour in the centre of the resort. The larger and more family-friendly hotels are located more towards the back and edges of the resort.

Of all the hotels I have visited in this area, these I can advise:

Things to do in Corralejo

Corralejo is one of the best places on the island if you want to see, do and experience many things during your holiday. From the local harbour, there are many day trips by boat to the neighbouring island of Lanzarote and Lobos Island. Also, in the resort, you can find the Acua Water Park, mini-golf, trampolines and watersports. Since there are so many tourists here, frequent buses go to attractions all over the island and there are many organised excursions exploring the inland of Fuerteventura.

Here is my complete list of things to do in Fuerteventura.

Restaurants, bars and nightlife

Corralejo has one of the largest selections of bars and restaurants. The variety here is huge. From budget, family-friendly places with quizzes and karaoke to the many classy and upscale restaurants near the harbour area. If you like to go clubbing and have an active nightlife, Corralejo is the best in Fuerteventura, as it has many bars with live performances and nightclubs open till early in the morning.

Fuerteventura airport to Corralejo

Corralejo is pretty close to the airport of Fuerteventura at 37 km. Therefore, there are many different options to get you there fast and easy.

  • There is no direct public transport to Corralejo. It is possible to get there, but it is much more complex and requires you to change buses in Puerto del Rosario.
  • A shuttle bus will get you there quickly but needs to be booked before arriving and cost 7.37 € per person.
  • Reserving a taxi online before arriving has a fixed price of 46.83 €. Taking a taxi from the airport has a starting price of 46 € and will be more expensive at the weekend or evening.

This is the company I used and advise for booking a taxi or shuttle online. For more information about public transport, you can have a look here.

Weather in Corralejo & when to go

The weather in Corralejo is good all year round, with hot summers and milder but still very comfortable winters. So this is an excellent place for a sunny holiday all year round compared to many other holiday destinations in Spain where winters are generally cold and wet and not beach holiday weather. While Corralejo gets a little bit more rainy and cloudy days being located in the North of the island, most of them fall in November, December and January. Yet this is only 3 rainy days on average per month, so still very little. For the best weather June, July, August and September are best, when there is typically no rain.

This is also one of the more lively resorts since there are so many local Spanish people here. So even when there are fewer tourists on the island, Corralejo remains lively and very few things close during these times in the resort.

Is Corralejo the best holiday destination for you?

Corralejo is one of the more complete holiday destinations on the island, with lots of bars, restaurants, shops, beaches, activities, amusement parks and nightlife. So if you want it all during your holiday and you are preferably not travelling during the winter, then Corralejo is the best holiday destination for you in Fuerteventura.
