Puerto Pollensa

Beaches

Beach of Puerto Pollensa

In Puerto Pollensa, you will find one large white sandy beach outside the harbour area, where you find the most prominent hotels.  However, if staying here, my advice would be to also walk into the harbour where you will find a variety of cosy little beaches with many restaurants and snack places nearby.  Waves and water are also very shallow here, so this is the ideal area for small children and babies.

Hotels

Puerto Pollensa has not very many hotels, but they have many different options available anyway.  Compared to many of the other destinations in Mallorca, many hotels here are relatively small and boutique style.  Outside of the harbour of Puerto Pollensa, you will find the more prominent hotels.  Here are 2 great choices:

Nightlife

Sandcastle on the beach at night in Puerto de Pollensa

There are no real clubs or busy nightlife in Puerto de Pollensa.  This place has more of a relaxed vibe.  However, in the front line, you will find some cosy beach clubs where you can sit, have a drink or some cocktails right next to the beach; some of them are even set into the sea a bit for a unique chill vibe. This is a unique experience that you can not find anywhere else in Mallorca.  If you want to party, the closest clubs are Mentha, Magic and Bananas in Puerto Alcudia.  These are most busy on Wednesday and Saturday.

Restaurants and bars

Restaurants there are many in Puerto Pollensa.  Most of these are pretty pricey compared to the rest of Mallorca since they offer a more unique and more upscale cuisine.  However, there are also fast-food restaurants and Chinese buffets if you look for something more on a budget.  Like it is the case in most resorts on the island, the more you go into the harbour, the more pricey it gets.

Markets and shopping

Puerto Pollensa has mostly boutique-style shops spread throughout the harbour where you can buy clothing.  If you want to explore local products and markets, then know that there are 2 markets in this area.  One in Puerto Pollensa near the church, and one in Pollensa old town.

How to get to Puerto Pollensa

Puerto Pollensa is pretty far from the airport. So to find the best option to get there, I would advise you to look at my other webpage where I compare taxi, shuttle, bus or rental car going to Puerto Pollensa… and what is the best way for you to get to Puerto Pollensa. There you can also find links to the companies I use when travelling to Mallorca airport.

Things to do near Puerto Pollensa

Since Puerto Pollensa is in the North of Mallorca, it is located quite far away from the main parks near Palma (about 50 km away), but Puerto Pollensa has many things to do nearby.  One of the most popular things to do is the boat trip to the beach of Formentor.  It is fun for the entire family but make sure to bring food and drinks.  If you are travelling in July or August, I would avoid this beach as it gets way too crowded and doesn’t offer any of the charms it is famous for.  You can also take the bus, the best and cheapest way since if you go by car, there is a parking fee of 10 euro at the beach, even if you only are there for half an hour.

Also, the Cap de Formentor is often visited, the most Northerly point of Mallorca.  About 20 km away.   This one can also be reached by public transportation.

For culture definitely, visit the Pollensa old town and walk up the Calvari steps to get a great view over the town.  If you want a great view over the entire area, climb the mountain (about 1 hour with plenty of shade along the way) to the Santuari del Puig de Maria next to the Pollensa town.

A visit to the beach of Cala San Vincente may also make a nice change of scenery.
