Beaches

Beach in Matagorda

Matagorda has 2 beaches.  The Punta Lima, the more rough beach that is, the better place to do some snorkelling and exploring and also very popular with kids because all the planes fly over here when they are landing at the airport.  There is also a little playground here for the kids. Do know that sometimes you can find some nudists here as well.

On the other side is the more developed Playa Matagorda, a white sandy beach with sun loungers and umbrella rentals.  This is also usually the busiest, but you will not notice it much since the beaches here are huge.

Hotels in Matagorda

  • If traveling with small children I can definitely advise the Nautilus Lanzarote.
  • If you are looking for a budget-friendly option that offers great value for money the Costa Sal in Matagorda.

Nightlife

Shopping centre and nightlife in Matagorda

All the nightlife is easy to find in this area since most of it takes place in the centrally located shopping centre.  This is also great since all the noise this might bring is kept away from the hotels. So I think this is a great solution.  Within walking distance, you will also find Puerto del Carmen, where more of the bigger clubs can be found. Here in Matagorda, however, it is primarily a selection of family-friendly bars and pubs.

Restaurants & bars

Restaurants as well can all be found in front of Matagorda, in the shopping centre. That’s ideal, especially with small kids as you won’t have to walk a lot before finding something you like.  All the restaurants here have great reviews and offer excellent food.

Menu and prices of a restaurant in Matagorda

A quick tip, if you are staying a long time in Matagorda, always eat out and want a more extensive selection of restaurants to choose from, have a walk over to Puerto del Carmen, where you will find many more restaurants.

How to get to Matagorda

Matagorda is right next to the airport in Lanzarote (ACE) but too far away to walk. Here are 3 good options:

  • Public transport: 1.4 euro
  • Shuttle bus: 5 euro
  • Taxi: 9 euro in the daytime or 10 euro in the evening and weekend

The bus ticket you can get on arrival. You have to book in advance for the shuttle bus, and for the taxis, I would advise booking in advance. Please have a look here for more info on shuttles and taxis and where to book them.

Things to do in and near the Matagorda

Near Matagorda, you will find the Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park. A great park with lots of fun things to do and see for the entire family. There are lots of animal shows, a zoo and even a small water park. This is one of the better parks in Lanzarote. Other than that there is not much more to do in this area. Like anyone visiting Lanzarote, I would advise you to rent a car as it is so cheap.

These are just a few of the things you can do in and near Matagorda. You can find my complete list of things to do while on holiday in Lanzarote here.

Is Matagorda the best holiday destination for you?

Matagorda is a compact little resort so ideal for those who don’t like or can’t walk far. Especially for those with small children and prams. The beach, restaurants and shops are centrally located and easy to reach. This resort is very close to the airport and while the planes passing over the sea here might not be a problem for most, some might not enjoy this during their holiday. However, this has the added benefit that transfer times are very quick.
