Los Cristianos

The main beach in Los Cristianos is Playa Los Cristianos, a vast sandy beach with everything you can want for a beach holiday with the family.  This beach is a typical touristy family-friendly beach, and most of the beach is sheltered by the harbour wall, so waves are pretty shallow for families with small kids.

Playa de los Cristianos beach

If this beach gets too busy for you or you want to do a bit of snorkelling, have a walk over to the Playa Los Callados, a little beach just on the outside of the Los Cristianos area that few people know about and therefore gets much less crowded.  This beach is also the best place to do some snorkelling and exploring in this area.

Los Cristianos bars and nightlife

Los Cristianos is mostly about having a few chill drinks in a relaxed setting, so this place is ideal for you if you are looking for this.  But suppose you want to have a more busy nightlife, with clubs and late-night bars. In that case, you can walk or take a taxi into the neighbouring resort of Playa de las Americas that has many more clubs and bars that are open into the early morning, especially near the Veronicas area.

If you are not sure if Los Cristianos is right for you, look at my where to stay in Tenerife guide covering all the different holiday destinations in Tenerife.

While there is some basic shopping in Los Cristianos, you might need to go to Playa de las Americas for the more extensive shopping centres.  Playa de las Americas is one giant shopping centre with loads of upscale and branded stores.  It is not cheap.  If you want to benefit from the low prices that Tenerife has to offer, go look in Santa Cruz, which is the capital and not influenced by “tourist pricing”.

How to get to Los Cristianos

Los Cristianos is 17 km away from the Tenerife South Airport:

  • Public transport: 4 euro
  • Shuttle bus: 5 euro
  • Taxi: 21.50 euro

Los Cristianos is 80 km away from the Tenerife North Airport:

  • Public transport: 12.40 euro
  • Shuttle bus: Not available if you don’t have a packaged holiday
  • Taxi: 95 euro

Here are some essential things you need to know about buses, shuttles and taxis at the Tenerife airports. There you can also find the companies I use when travelling in Tenerife.

Restaurants and bars

Los Cristianos has one of the largest selections of restaurants and places to eat in Tenerife and many fast food places for those who can’t live without them.  Know that you can also easily walk from here to the Playa de las Americas area with an even wider variety and choice of restaurants.  Do know that overall, the Playa de las Americas area gets a bit more pricey.

Siam Water park slides

Siam Water Park, just a few km away from Playa de las Americas, is rated as the best water park in the world. It is also one of the parks I would advise you to visit. It is possible to walk here, but there are also free buses that will pick you up.
