Costa del Silencio

Beaches

People chilling on the rocks next to the ocean in Costa del Silencio

Costa del Silencio has a unique place to swim on Tenerife, the Playa Amarilla.  The water is very clear because it’s primarily pebbles and rocks, so no sand to get in the way.  What makes it extremely good for snorkelling and exploring the area. If you want to spend some time here, there is also a cute little beach bar, and you might even want to walk up the Amarilla mountain if you would get a bit restless or enjoy a bit of adventure.

On the other side of the area, near the Las Galletas, there is a more traditional sandy beach, and the harbour area offers many watersport options like jet skiing.  On the way there, you can also find a small tiny little beach, the Playa la Ballena.

Hotels

The Costa del Silencio has very few hotels; it is primarily residential and holiday homes where people stay during their holidays in this area.  Most of it is budget accommodation, so this could be a great place to stay if you are looking for deals.  Have a look at the Costa del Silencio page on booking.com.

Nightlife

Costa del Silencio is a relaxed place; you will not find any clubs or busy nightlife here; it’s mostly about having a few drinks and enjoying the warm summer evenings.

Restaurants and bars

There are quite a few restaurants and places to eat in the Costa del Silencio, many of these cater to a more international audience. However, when you want some of the more traditional Spanish cuisines, have a look next to the beach or sea in the Las Galletas area, a small walk away from most of the hotels. In addition, the Costa del Silencio and Las Galletas area restaurants have some very fair prices compared to some of the more touristy destinations in Tenerife.

Shopping

Since the closing of the Ten Bel Shopping Center, there isn’t any shopping in this area anymore.  If you want to shop, my best tip would be to drive over to Santa Cruz in Tenerife, where you can still shop at “Tenerife prices”.  This is about 1 hour by car or 1.5 hours by bus.  The shopping centres in Playa de las Americas are closer by but also much more aimed at high price brands and therefore also much more expensive.

Things to do near Costa del Silencio

Costa del Silencio is a bit in the middle of nowhere but at the same time close to everything, yet just too far to get there.  Busses do go here, but since car rental is so cheap in Tenerife, you might as well just rent a car.  Outside of the high season months, you can easily find a car here for less than 10 euros a day if you rent them at the airport for a week.  So do not miss out on everything that Tenerife has to offer; I would definitely advise you to rent a car as I did.
