Puerto del Carmen

Puerto del Carmen is one of the more complete areas in Lanzarote, with lots to see and do in the resort. The nightlife is outstanding here, with many bands, live performances, and shows every night throughout the resort. This is a pretty touristy area with many restaurants, bars, and shops, but a large local population lives here, giving it some authenticity. With huge beaches, there is also always a spot for everyone, and it never gets too crowded.

This area is excellent for families with children of all ages, couples, and solo travellers looking for a more adult-focused holiday.

  • Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park Zoo and Waterpark is less than 1 km away.
  • Lanzarote Golf is located in the back of the area.
  • This area is the tourist area that is best connected with the public transport.
  • Located centrally on the island, so everything is nearby.
  • Many bus tours leave from here each day and explore the island. You can join them by booking a ticket at your hotel reception or online.
  • Boat tours to Papagayo Beach or sunset or dolphin and whale watching.
  • The area is quite extensive, but taxi stops are never far away.
  • Airport transfers are easy by bus, shuttle bus, or taxi, as it is just 2 to 3 km away.

If you are looking for a luxurious adults-only holiday, the Lani’s Suites de Luxe is a great choice. For families, Hotel Riu Paraiso Lanzarote is great, and for a budget hotel next to the beach, choose Hotel Las Costas. These are also located along the main bus route going through the resort, so bus stops are always nearby.

Arrecife

Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote, has very few tourists, which keeps the area more authentic. With great public transport, budget-friendly restaurants, and an excellent beach, it is great for a holiday without a car. This area is ideal if you want to do a lot of exploring by public transport. Also, since there are few tourists here, the prices are much more Spanish and, therefore, budget-friendly.

While I would not stay here with a family with young children, it is excellent for solo travellers or younger couples who want to explore the island.

  • The bus terminus here gives you many options to explore the mountain area and the less touristy parts of Lanzarote without transferring to other buses along the way.
  • Arrecife is not that big, so everything is easily walkable.
  • Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park and Aquapark Costa Teguise are less than 5 kilometres away.
  • It is easy and cheap to get here from the airport, by public transport, as it is so close.

Arrecife Gran Hotel & Spa is the best place to stay, directly next to the beach, for a luxurious holiday that is still affordable because of the generally lower prices in this area.

Costa Teguise

With many different beaches, Costa Teguise is ideal for those who love spending time on the beach. You will find many cosy restaurants and bars around the Pueblo Marinero in the town centre in the evening. A long, car-free promenade next to the sea makes it easy for you to walk anywhere.

Costa Teguise is great for a budget-friendly family holiday. It is also popular with younger couples during the high season and older couples in the cheaper low season.

  • Exploring the less touristy and more mountainous North of the island is easy by bus from here.
  • For the more touristy part, you often have to take the bus first to Arrecife and transfer there in the bus terminus.
  • The resort is quite big but walkable as long as you are staying near the Pueblo Marinero, where most of the things to see, do, and experience are located, as well as many restaurants and bars.
  • The Aquapark Costa Teguise is located here.
  • Many bus tours leave here every day to explore the island and popular attractions.
  • Getting here from the airport is best by shuttle bus or taxi, as there are no direct connections.

Stay at Los Zocos Impressive Lanzarote with a family with older children and teenagers. For adults-only holidays, stay at Apartamentos Oceano for a cheap holiday and Barcelo Teguise Beach for a more luxurious option.
