Taurito

Taurito in Gran Canaria is a small beach holiday destination in a valley, mainly popular with families with children. Especially in the evening, there is a lot for kids to do, like bowling, mini golf, arcades, mini disco, and much more. Most people eat and drink in their hotels, but there are a few excellent beachside restaurants and bars as well. Kids love the beach here, and there are lots of watersports you can partake in.

Beaches

The Playa del Diablito, or, as most people call it, Taurito beach, is a relaxing place with a few louder kids in the background when the waves get high. A lot of families really like this beach because it isn’t too big and it is easy to keep an eye on your kids. While the sand is darker grey and there are quite a few rocks on the beach, as you will find in many places in Gran Canaria, kids still love it. The beach is also lined by a few restaurants and beach bars with excellent service and quality.

Where to stay in Taurito

Hotel in Taurito

Taurito has fantastic ocean views from all the hotels, simply because they have been built against the hillside. While some have elevators to go down, others require a taxi, a shuttle, or some walking. Important to keep in mind when selecting a hotel.

  • Taurito Princess: The most modern and luxurious all-inclusive hotel here, right next to the beach.
  • Cordial Magec Taurito: Apartments for a relaxing holiday, with or without kids, offering excellent service, food, and a compact, cosy feel.
  • Livvo Costa Valle Taurito & Waterpark: The best family holiday hotel in Taurito with free access to the waterpark, lots of entertainment and activities. Do note that the all-inclusive is not available in the waterpark unless you pay an extra fee.

Things to do in Taurito

  • Hiking: You can hike over the mountain to Puerto de Mogan. There are also many other trails you can take on the mountain. Make sure to use a good mountain trail navigation track, and do not go during midday, as it is too hot.
  • Arcades: There are 2 excellent arcades, one with virtual 3d experiences
  • Waterpark: Lago Taurito is the main attraction here, especially for children.
  • Snorkelling: Just on the sides of the beach are some great snorkelling spots, but only do it when the sea is calm and safe.
  • Bowling: Taurito even has its own bowling lanes.
  • Minigolf: Great fun, especially in the evenings.
  • Watersports: For a small resort, you can still do lots of watersports here, from kayaking and pedal boating to parasailing. All are available from the kiosk on the beach.
  • Vista Taurito: This restaurant on the side of the hill is the best place to enjoy food, a snack or drinks while watching the sunsets.
  • Krabi Spa: Krabi is the best spa here for those who want to relax or get a massage.
  • Buggy and jeep safaris: You can book these, and they will pick you up at your hotel.
  • Evening entertainment: The mini disco and live show in the valley of the resort make for a great place for families to spend the evening.
  • Puerto de Mogan: Visit nearby Puerto de Mogan for its picturesque scenery and great restaurants.

Important: Driving to Puerto de Mogan is pretty easy, but getting back is a bit harder, as the coastal road is closed due to rockfall. By bus, you might have to detour at no extra cost, but by taxi, detouring costs a lot more.

Restaurants

Taurito has very few restaurants. Mostly because people staying here mostly stay in all-inclusive hotels. That does, however, also mean that those who eat outside of the hotels can find some excellent restaurants near the beach. At least from my experience, the restaurants really try to excel to attract people out of the hotels.

Nightlife

Nightlife in Taurito is the most family-friendly on the island. While many of the hotels have their own mini disco and entertainment, there is also the main square minidisco and live show every evening. There is also minigolf, arcades, bowling, trampolines, and much more for families and kids to do in the evening in the valley.

Near the beach, you will find a more relaxed atmosphere with some beach bars to enjoy a few drinks.

Gran Canaria airport to Taurito

Gran Canaria airport taxi and bus info sign
  • Public transport (6.35 €/pp): While this is a good, cheap option, it is not ideal. The bus only stops at the back of the Taurito valley. So, depending on where your hotel is, this might require quite a bit of walking (uphill) with your luggage.
  • Shuttle bus online (17.74 €/pp): More pricey but more service. Dropped off directly at your hotel, guaranteed seat on the bus and connection if your flight gets delayed.
  • Taxi (97.42 €) or minibus (127.86 €) online: If you need child safety seats or have a lot of luggage, this is your best option. If you are more than 4 people, choose the minibus.
  • Taxi at the airport (76.00 €): Cheapest taxi option, but maximum for 4 people. Sundays and nighttime are more expensive.

Taurito focuses heavily on families with children. Therefore, during school holidays, it can get extremely busy here. While outside of school holidays, it can feel somewhat empty.

June and the end of September offer the best value for money, with plenty of good weather to enjoy the waterpark, and Taurito feels lively but not overcrowded. May is the cheapest, but the resort can feel very empty and almost abandoned.

Is Taurito the best holiday destination for you?

Taurito is one of the best places on the island for families with young children because of its water park, arcades, mini golf, bowling, and all the other activities. Since everything is located down in the valley, it is easy to find your way.

If you have difficulty walking and your hotel is located higher up on the hill and does not offer a shuttle service, you might not enjoy your holiday here because of the hilly terrain.
