San Agustín in Gran Canaria is a quiet, relaxing seaside holiday destination with several beaches. While it is primarily popular with adults and couples, there are also some family-friendly holiday hotels here. In the evenings, there are quite a few bars and restaurants in the local shopping centre, but if you want a more lively night out, you will have to go to nearby Playa del Ingles.

Beaches
Playa de San Agustin is the most popular beach in this area, with a mix of grey, brown and yellow sands. There is also an option to rent sun loungers, and there is a bar and a restaurant next to it. This beach is huge, and rarely feels crowded.

Playa de las Burras is another big beach here with a mix of brown, red and grey sand. Here you also have 2 beach bars where you can eat and drink. The San Agustin shopping centre is just a short walk away if you want more variety or access to a supermarket to buy something.

Just on the edge of San Agustin, you also have Playa el Veril, a grayish golden-sand beach with that more typical look and feel, popular with tourists. But from most of the tourist accommodation in San Agustin, it is quite a walk away.

On the other end of San Agustin, you will find the Playa Besudo, a very secluded and quiet beach that very few tourists know of. While it is a bit of a walk and quite a few stairs, if you are staying in San Agustin for a longer time, it is an excellent option for some variety

Where to stay in San Agustin

Most of the hotels in great locations here are adults-only. Almost all of these are located directly next to the beach. The more family-friendly hotels are either further back in the resort or higher up the hill.
- Don Gregory By Dunas: The best adults-only beach holiday hotel in this area, located directly next to the Playa de las Burras and with great sunset views, and also directly next to the San Agustin shopping centre with all the restaurants, shops, pubs and bars.
- Paradisus Gran Canaria: The best place for a 5-star, adults-only, relaxing and luxurious all-inclusive holiday with its own private beach club and pool right next to the beach.
- Bull Costa Canaria: An excellent adults-only hotel with luscious gardens, fantastic pools and a rooftop sundeck with a jacuzzi.
- Corallium Beach by Lopesan: Adults-only hotel that perfectly captures that summer beach holiday vibe.
- Abora Interclub Atlantic and Gloria Palace San Agustin: Good family holiday hotels, but they don’t have the best location, in my opinion, if you like to eat out a lot or visit the beach often.
Things to do in San Agustin
- Promenade: There is a long promenade that takes you along the beaches and the sea. You can even continue walking over it all the way into Playa del Ingles and over the beach to Meloneras. From there, if you want, you can take the bus back.
- Thalasso Gloria San Agustin: One of the biggest and best saltwater spas on the island.
- Watersports: Many watersports can be enjoyed at San Agustin beach, such as parasailing, jet skiing, and banana boats.
- Playa del Ingles: Walk or take a taxi to this area at night for the more lively nightlife and more choice of restaurants and bars.
- Sioux City Park: A Western-themed park located only a few kilometres away. Great fun for families with kids.
- Mini golf: On top of the shopping centre, there’s a mini golf course ideal for warm evenings or sunsets. During the day, it is less good because there is no shade.
This list is of things to do in or near San Agustin. But there is much more to see and do on the island. You can find a full list of the top things to do and not do in Gran Canaria here.
Restaurants

There are a few restaurants in San Agustin, but not many. Especially in the two shopping centres, El Porton and the bigger one, San Agustin, you will find these. There are also 2 or 3 next to the beaches, but not that many.
Nightlife
San Agustín in Gran Canaria has a nightlife mainly for adults. There are some nice beachside bars in the evening to relax, and if you want it a bit more lively, you can visit the local shopping centre, where there are the more lively bars and pubs.

Also, the Sala Scala dinner show here makes for a good but somewhat pricey night out. You can also opt for just the show for a more budget-friendly option. They have special shows for adults only, as well as more family-friendly versions.
If you want more lively clubbing and pubs, take a taxi to Playa del Ingles, just 5 minutes away.
Gran Canaria airport to San Agustin

- Public transport (3.50 €/pp): A cheap option, but these buses only stop on the main road, and this might still be far from your hotel.
- Shuttle bus online (9.75 €/pp): A better option with more service, a guaranteed seat on the bus and dropped off directly at your hotel. Also, if your flight gets delayed, they will provide a solution.
- Taxi (66.98 €) or minibus (97.42 €) online: Best taxi option if you need child safety seats or have a lot of luggage. If you are travelling with more than 4 people, it is best to book a minibus.
- Taxi at the airport (41.00 €): The cheapest option for a taxi for 4 people or fewer. This could be a good option for arrivals and departures during the daytime and on weekdays. Sundays and nighttime are more expensive.

When to go

San Agustin is very popular as a year-round holiday destination. As this holiday destination mostly has adults-only holiday hotels, it does not have as much flux as some of the other holiday destinations on the islands during school holiday weeks. Therefore, it is a great holiday destination to escape the busy crowds and the many families with kids during those weeks. Especially when visiting in June and August, when the rest of the island gets very busy and overrun with families with children, this holiday destination stays comparatively relaxed.
If you want a budget-friendly holiday here, May and the end of September are your best choices. The end of September is similar in price to May, but generally, the weather is better. March and April are also popular months to visit here for people escaping the cold winters in mainland Europe.
Is San Agustin the best holiday destination for you?
San Agustin is perfect for couples who like a relaxing holiday by the beach, with an adult-focused vibe and mostly relaxing evenings and nightlife.
San Agustin is less ideal if you want lots of restaurants and nightlife right on your doorstep. For families, even though there are some excellent family holiday hotels, San Agustin has less to offer families than the more family-focused holiday destinations on the island.
