Meloneras

Restaurants next to the Meloneras beach

Upscale, modern and all-inclusive best describes what Meloneras in Gran Canaria has to offer. This applies to the hotels but also bars, restaurants and shops in the resort.

Beaches

Meloneras is the newest area in Maspalomas.  This is also where you find the Meloneras beach on one side and on the other side of the resort, the Maspalomas beach.  Especially the Maspalomas beach is enormous, so there is always plenty of space.

There are often powerful winds here, so they put up nets to block most sand blowing around.  If it gets too much, the Meloneras beach is more sheltered from the wind and, on these days, might be a better option. Many of the hotels in this area have huge pools, and some even have their white sandy beaches in the hotels, so many people choose to stay in the hotels.

Hotels

Meloneras has some of the newest, biggest and most modern hotels in Gran Canaria. Here are a few of my favourite ones:

Nightlife

The Meloneras area has some bars, but most are aimed at just having a few relaxed drinks in the evening, and some offer some late-night entertainment like singers or pianists. On the other hand, if you want to party, the Playa del Ingles area is nearby. You can walk there, but that is pretty far or go there by car or taxi in just a few minutes.

Restaurant & bars

Even tho Meloneras has many all-inclusive hotels; there is still plenty of variety if you want to eat out.  The restaurants here primarily cater to a higher budget, but in the direction of the Maspalomas and Meloneras beach, you will also find some more budget options.  Near the Meloneras beach, you also have a nice view over the sea in the evening towards the sunset.

How to get to Meloneras

Meloneras is 35 km from the Gran Canaria airport (LPA):

  • Public transport: 4.10€
  • Shuttle bus: 5.50€
  • Taxi: 34€

If you take the public bus, you want to wait until you see the Maspalomas lighthouse bus stop. For essential things to know about taxis, shuttles and buses at the Gran Canaria airport as well as the companies I booked with and would advise, have a look here.

Shopping

Meloneras offers a wide variety of branded stores… of the upscale kind. Most of these are for clothing, but you can also find many other things here. They offer an ideal shaded and refreshing place to do some shopping during the daytime, but all of them are open till late.

If you are looking for a market in Meloneras, there aren’t any. The closest one is the Mercado Municipal in San Fernando in nearby Maspalomas.

Things to do in Meloneras

Meloneras is very centrally located to most of the main attractions in Gran Canaria. To advise only one thing is a bit difficult but it would have to Palmitos Park. Much more than a zoo with many live animals shows as eagles, dolphins, and parrot shows.

There is a lot more to do near Meloneras. Here is my complete list of things to do and not do while on holiday in Gran Canaria.
